The Sakhalin-2 project for the development of the Piltun-Astokhskoye and Lunskoye oil and gas fields on the continental shelf of Sakhalin Island is managed and operated by Sakhalin Energy. The company operates pursuant to a production sharing agreement. Shareholders of Sakhalin Energy are PJSC Gazprom, Shell, Mitsui & Co., and Mitsubishi.
The Sakhalin-2 project includes three offshore oil and gas production platforms, a system of offshore and onshore pipelines, an integrated onshore processing facility, an oil export terminal, a pumping station, and the first in Russia liquefied natural gas plant.
In September 2017, Sakhalin Energy signed an investment contract with Petrofac Facilities Management Limited (Petrofac) for the construction, procurement, and site services at the booster compressor station construction site, which is part of the Sakhalin-2 integrated onshore processing facility.
The facility is designed to compress natural gas to a pressure of 8.55 MPa. The maximum daily capacity of the gas booster station will be 56.63 million standard m3. Its annual capacity in terms of crude gas will be 18.79 billion standard m3.
The project involves the construction of three compressor units 32.0 MW each and other core and auxiliary facilities. To maintain the optimal temperature of the crude gas being transported, the facility will be provided with heating systems based on electric heating cables. The Russian engineering company SST Energomontazh (member of SST Group) won the tender announced by Petrofac.
At the moment, the engineering design documentation is being finalized. The entire scope of supply is expected to ship by the end of the year. SST Group’s solutions will heat the pipelines and tanks of the booster compressor station. In total, SST Energomontazh will supply 50 km of heating cables (self-regulating and resistive) to the Sakhalin-2 site.
SST Energomontazh specializes in the design, supply, and maintenance of electric heating systems for projects in Russia and abroad, including Ex-rated equipment, skin effect-based systems, self-regulating and resistive heating cables. SST Group’s products are certified to the international standards IECEx, VDE, ATEX. The bidding procedure held by Petrofac was preceded by a vendor listing procedure of several stages.
